V-Tag® · Active RFID hardware

Our own active-RFID line, built to find things without fixed readers.

V-Tag® is InfinID's active-RFID hardware — battery-powered tags that build their own self-healing Zigbee mesh. Fixed reference tags map the space, movable asset tags locate themselves at zone level, and a lightweight gateway relays it all to AssetWorx! — with no costly fixed-reader grid to install.

PoE or USB-C gateways relay the mesh to a cloud or local server over Ethernet or Wi-Fi. For outdoor lots and yards, a GPS / 915 MHz LoRaWAN tag reaches well beyond the indoor mesh.

How the mesh reports — the honest version

V-Tag is an active Zigbee self-healing mesh built for reliable zone-level location — not a real-time locating system. It is not RTLS, not sub-second, not BLE, and not a beacon-positioning system. Positions settle across the mesh in roughly 3–4 minutes — the honest trade for battery life measured in years and near-zero fixed infrastructure.

The technology

One platform. Two RFID physics.

A single AssetWorx! deployment runs active V-Tag mesh and passive UHF RFID at the same time — one data model, one UI, one integration surface. Two technologies with opposite trade-offs, so you use the right one for each job and never stitch two vendors together.

Active V-Tag mesh

Battery-powered tags that locate high-value assets at zone level across open floors and large facilities — with onboard sensors and near-zero fixed infrastructure. Zone-level, ~3–4 min settle — not RTLS.

Passive UHF RFID

Cheap, battery-free tags read by the hundred at choke points and portals. The opposite trade-off: more fixed infrastructure, but disposable tags and high-throughput capture as assets pass a boundary.

Both, hybrid

Put an active V-Tag on the container or cart to locate it, passive tags on the items inside to inventory the contents — associated parent-to-child in the same AssetWorx! instance. Best of both.

Why the mesh

Block one link, and a BLE tag goes dark.

BLE is point-to-point. Each tag must reach a nearby gateway — block that one link with a machine, a rack, or a metal wall and the tag simply goes dark. Covering a plant means wired gateways in every zone.

Our mesh self-heals. Every tag relays for the others, so signals hop around metal and blockages; one path fails and traffic reroutes automatically. More tags make the mesh stronger — and a whole plant is covered from far fewer fixed nodes.
